UI/UX: AppleTV Remote Usability
Navigation on Apple TV is rather difficult. The UI seems overly sensitive to switching fields compared to Zwift. I try to swipe down to get to the next field, but it goes 2-3 fields ahead. It was similar when using the remote app on the phone as well. This is obviously not an issue for a computer that has a mouse, or touch screen display.
Likewise, using left/right/up/down to navigate the UI doesn’t always seem to go to the next field that seems intuitive.

The navigation of the menus on apple tv 4k 2022 us very difficult. Very inconsistent with how the remote works in other apple tv apps.
Sometimes it's overly sensitive and sometimes it's non responsive.
Also, it can be very difficult to see where your selection i(cursor)s on the screen -

This problem is a huge pain.

Apple remote is still frustrating to use. Seems way to sensitive to set up a ride in a reasonable time. I will keep using Zwift until this is resolved.

I feel that apple TV remote became especially bad after its latest update. It's super frustrating to select and click on bottoms.

I saw recently where TrainingPeaks purchased indieVelo. I've never used either but, subscribe to Fulgaz. So, I thought I'd give your platform a try. I have never seen it so impossible and frustrating to create a new account. I have Appletv and used the Appletv remote. I'll bet I tried a dozen times, so many that I actually forgot. Anything and everything that could've gone wrong did. Couldn't get the right box highlighted and or it moved more than one box. Inputted wrong password and on and on and on. I got to the point that I just gave up. the frustration wasn't worth it to me.

I have to agree with the general impression. But I see improvement over the last 2 months.
TPV is still behind any other apps and I don't know why. The remote is probably the worst thing Apple ever released, but it's next level with TPV. :)What's recently improved:
- response time after pressing the button.Needs improvement:
- response time after pressing the button, ;)
- sometimes one click causes jump by two fields on the screen,
- sometimes selection requires two clicks,
- sliding just doesn't work for me in TPV.I use the latest ATV with up to date software.

It’s impossible to use with the Apple TV remote, menu navigation doesn’t work with it. Struggled for over 30 minutes with it and couldn’t even finish creating my avatar. Please fix.

Menu navigation impossible with Apple TV Remote. I couldnt even try the software because it was taking forever (over 30 minutes and still on the avatar personalization) and couldn’t go on. Please help with this.

This is so frustrating. I cannot understand why this does not work for this platform... my remote works wonderfully in all other apps on my TV. Therefore, it's not a remote problem or a bluetooth issue... it's within the app. So glad I stumbled onto this tread. I thought I was going crazy!

The "back" button trying to kick me out of the app is so bizarre. Why doesn't it just go back to the previous screen?

Try disabling the swipe functionality from the Apple TV's remote settings, so only the left-right and up-down buttons are used. I then find it just about usable - sort of.

I have been using TPV since November and initially I didn't think the remote was any worse than in other apps. It seems like something changed in late January and now the remote is terrible. I have seen suggestions to use the remote function on my iPhone but it does not seem to work at all inside TPV.
I have an older ATV 4K with the original remote for reference.

I ride with my local tri group and we are using both Zwift and TPV for group workouts. A few of us are ‘early adopters’ trying out the TPV and we keep getting asked by the Zwifters whether TPV is any good. The TPV crowd raves about the better metrics, realism, sync with TP, BUT our common gripe is that the Apple TV app is so twitchy it’s pretty much impossible to navigate to select a group workouts or many adjustments. TPV on iPad is a dream, but why is the Apple TV app such an unusable mess?!?

The AppleTV interface is still incredibly frustrating, despite the recent change to AppleTV remote functionality. I’ve just spent 5-10 minutes trying to logon, then trying to select a workout and then trying to get riding because a) there seems to be a lag between me clicking and TPv responding, b) TPv doing something random when I click to select, and c) the back button on the remote trying to kick me out of the app, rather than doing what it logically should and going back a step. And this is in addition to a colour scheme that makes it hard to spot what is currently selected.
Come on guys, i know is this is still in development, but every other app on AppleTV works with the remote as it should, this is table stakes I’m afraid. At some point I will just give up… -

As yesterday (2/4/2025) remote responsiveness was terrible. I have the original touch only remote for the early 4K models, and up until now it was manageable. Yesterday as I was trying to navigate the menu it the highlighted selection was jumping all over the screen randomly regardless of how fast/slow I tried to slide the cursor.
I tried to use the remote app on my phone, as suggested by Simon, and it was completely unresponsive. Nothing worked in the TPV app, but it does work on the Apple TV main menu. -

I use the iPhone Remote app, and the 4th gen remote (A1513) and consistently experience poor control on the TVP Apple TV app
