    I use Garmin watch and Garmin HRM. With running it is kind of simple how you can determine if a watch or HRM was used. Chest strap provides running dynamics when watch doesn't. If you see on Garmin Connect additional data you know that it came from chest strap. Another way is to force the watch to download heart rate data from the external monitor. You can do it even with previously saved workouts (some heart rate monitors can save data for some time - not sure how long...).

    TreaningPeaks has nothing to do with that. I contacted Garmin in regards to this issue (it used to drive me crazy but I learnt not to pay attention) and Garmin informed me that alerts cannot be turned off in scheduled workouts.
