Manually adding distance mile/km laps/splits in analysis and distance line markers on the graph
I have a new athlete who uses an Apple watch and her run comes through as one lap. TP helpdesk has said this is the way the file comes to them and that Apple will label the mile laps in their native app but they are not automatically writing them into the file itself.
While I understand the information provided by the Apple file, I still find the absence of labelled laps in the analyse section of TraingPeaks a bit perplexing, especially considering the investment I've made in TrainingPeaks Premium accounts for my athletes. It seems like a basic feature that could significantly enhance the user experience. Using the drag and highlight on each mile of the graph to create laps method for every run is incredibly time consuming but is the solution TrainingPeaks offers.
It just seems odd when in TP you can click Peak mile/km or 400m/800m etc to highlight that section on the chart, that I couldn't click each individual mile or km in the same method, rather than dragging sections on the chart. Alternatively, perhaps a toggle, similar to what Final Surge offers for adding distance laps post-workout, could be a viable solution. I've encountered challenges with the current method of dragging sections on the chart to delineate laps, particularly when precision is crucial. The lack of distance lines along the bottom of the analysis chart further adds to the difficulty. I've gathered from googling the issue and discussions with fellow coaches that this is a common sentiment.
Additionally, I have Suunto users among my athletes, and the absence of this feature has significantly slowed down my workflow. The workaround TP provided in response to Suunto users having missing laps if I use the workout builder for an hour's endurance run for example hasn't proven to be efficient, and it's becoming a considerable time sink, especially with multiple athletes now on Suunto devices. I either use the workout builder so their TSS along with pace, RPE or HR are on the workout prescribed but then their data comes back as one lap or I have to work out the TSS, Pace etc and manually add them so that I get their workout with laps from Suunto.
Other platforms respond to user needs, as evident in Strava adding distance laps to this same Apple file. This particular data is fundamental for runners, and having it readily available within the TrainingPeaks platform would undoubtedly enhance both athlete's and coaches' experience using the platform.
