WORKOUTS: Handle TrainingPeaks workouts with a power range
My workouts in TrainingPeaks set a power range for long intervals (eg: 125-165w for 60mins). When they appear in TP Virtual, the ranges are changed to slopes (eg: start at 125w then gradually increase to 165w over 60mins).
I'd much rather ride these intervals at a fixed power using ERG mode rather than have it gradually increase or decrease.
Other platforms deal with this by using the middle value of the range as the set power for the entire duration instead of using a slope.
Many thanks for your suggestion and support for TrainingPeaks Virtual.
I'm delighted to say that this week's release (v0.4.18) now fully supports workouts with ranges for power, cadence and heartrate.
When specifying a range for a given interval (e.g. 180 - 200 Watts) in a workout, TrainingPeaks Virtual will now both explicitly display that range for the interval, as well as only display alerts if you go outside of that range. When using ERG mode for either power based, or heartrate based, workouts, then the trainer resistance will be automatically adjusted to keep you close to the mid-point of the range.

It is possible to programme ranges in workouts, either power or heartrate.
Currently TPV takes the middle value either as the on screen target or the ERG value. It would be good to natively support ranges.
This could be done by using a 'dial' type graphic which shows if you are inside the zone. For erg, the default could be the middle value but you can tweak it up or down (as you can today) within the zone, but unlike today the overall workout difficulty doesn't change, just where you are within the target zone.

The values you set in Workout Details Editor of Training Peaks differ greatly from the values that will be suggested in TP Virtual Workout.
For example, the set values for warm-up from 80 to 230 W - in TP Virtual are converted to values from 130 to 180 W.
The zones and FTP value are synchronized between Training Peaks and TP Virtual.
At the same time, the same workout created in TrainingPacks is OK in Zwift. -

ERG mode should honour the TP workout setting of the power range for each workout block. It's visible especially when doing short sprints in S7, when I want to spin as much power as possible for a short time. Even when a range is set from 150-1000 it starts to fast with 1000 and blocks my pedals, so it's extremely hard to go even to 800W, as it goes to fast to block me.

This approach is perfect for me as it's only on warm-up and cool-down. On the regular step, this is "flat". I would not change it at all.

When a workout syncs from Training Peaks to Virtual that includes warmup and cool down blocks with power ranges, the wattages for the ramps don't match the ranges of the workout design. It seems to grab the middle of the range and give a ramp within that range.
So let's say I have a warmup with a range of like 110-230w leading into a 230w endurance block, the warmup ramp it will give me will be something like 140-190w.
It would be nice to be able to take warmup ramps smoothly up to where you're trying to settle in.

From a coach to athlete training Rx/execution;
- add Rx range to view/prompt vs exact power goal if that is how workout is built in TP Workout builder. Likely still has to import as Erg mean between the Rx range but then athlete can see "keep power between 275-300w" vs "hold 288w". Then rider can self-select more real-life than being an erg robot. -

I believe these ramps are only when specific "Warm-up" and "Cool down" blocks are built from TP workout builder. If built with "Active" then the system still takes the mean of the range for a steady erg effort like the middle ramps shown in screen shot.
As a coach I'd actually wish the intervals would show/recommend the full range and NOT hold to the mean of the interval Rx. That is reality not erg life.
