Set a default TSS calculation method (hrTSS vs TSS)
(In user story notation for clarity)
- As an offroad runner
- I want hrTSS to be the default/preferred metric for ALL my activities
- So that: 1) I can see an accurate training load metric; hrTSS (which accounts for variations in elevation, bag weight, terrain, weather, etc) 2) Without having to change EVERY individual activity from TSS > hrTSS manually
This may of course be better implemented by allowing all users to set a default TSS calc method at global or activity level.
Customer Support Representative confirms "Unfortunately, there is not a way to set a default TSS calculation method however this is becoming a very popular request.
We appreciate this feedback and I have passed this along to our team here. I would like to refer you to enter this on our uservoice forum as well." ~ request #387776 via email
Thank you for the feedback. This is a common request and has been added to that project’s feedback.
Future opportunities have not been added to our road map yet, but we are actively collecting feedback which contributes to the prioritization process. We do not want to set up false expectations and want to make sure that there is awareness that this update currently is not prioritized and does not have an ETA.

The capability to: 1) select and set a default TSS per activity type and then 2) be able to still manually toggle between the various TSS types is what is desired. There is value to the toggle in certain scenarios. You can kind of do this for cycling and running, but setting default is only done by a seemingly random pop up prompt. It would be good to be able go to a setting menu and make the adjustment vs waiting for the pop up and of course be able to do it for any workout type not just run and bike.

New wrist based Running power from Garmin device uploading to training peaks and becoming default TSS for running activities. This is messing up my data and historical information. No way to set TSS type (e.g rTSS) as the default for run activities so I need to manual change this on a daily basis. Not ideal at all and I expect this to start to affect a lot of your members soon.

I have the same issue outlined by Trevor below. I also now have running power as default on my running activities which is throwing all my stats and history over many years. I need to amend this manually every day which isn't ideal! I need rTSS as default for my run activities

I agree and would really appreciate this feature. Power TSS (TSS) getting added to my running is very different than rTSS or hrTSS and really throws off my TSS if I don't catch it.

I use my Apple Watch on the treadmill mill but often the distance is not accurate for a workout. When synching it doesn’t seem like my TP app “knows” it is a tread run even though I select it on Apple Watch so it doesn’t switch to heart rate tss. I manually update the distance but the TSS doesn’t change even though pace and other fields auto update on a completed workout.

Hi There,
I completely agree. I am in the process of adjusting all my runs to hRTSS so that I can get an accurate picture of trail running.
