Heart Rate Variability As TP Metric
Please include heart rate variability (HRV) as a TP metric. Many people use HRV. Yes, I realize that some people have some skepticism about HRV, but that shouldn't matter on the issue of including it as an available TP metric. Those who want to use HRV can; those who don't can ignore it (just the same as for all other TP metrics). Thanks.
An update to our iOS app that adds HRV to the list of supported metrics was released today. It may take 24 hours until Apple prompts you to install the update, so keep watch for it. There are numerous other UX updates to the app that we hope you will like too.
Our Android app will be updated towards the end of next week. That update will include support for HRV. Once the Android app is released, we will mark this feature request as completed. Thank you all for your patience, I know it took us a long time to get to this point.
We have been working with HRV app developers to save HRV data directly to your TrainingPeaks account. So far the SweetBeat HRV app has been updated and released. The HRV Plus app should be updated soon along with a few others that we will announce once they are ready. If you would like the app that you use to measure HRV to save to TrainingPeaks, then please send this page to the app developer and ask them to contact us. We have reached out to a developers, but it is better when they hear from the customers directly.
One powerful feature of our mobile apps is the ability to graph metrics on your PMC. Adding HRV to your PMC may help see you identify trends in your training and recovery. This blog post talks about how to customize your charts on mobile:

So I am the builder of one of these HRV Apps and http://www.hrvplus.com and it would be great if we had an API to update HRV. There are many people requesting HRV but each person seems to be asking for something different. It's agree that HRV is not a standardized metric, I use basically the same as iThlete but most of the rest are all something different so I think the only usefully standard is make this just a data point that get's added to each workout so that it is usable in expression functions? Or maybe it could just be a new calendar item? This new calendar item makes more sense since it is typically a single measurement taken in the morning before any workouts.

Nice to see that HRV metric was added to the web app, but I cannot add it via the iOS mobile app. This seems to be a little inconsistent and I would prefer to enter this in the mobile since I typically measure my HRV via the iThlete HRV App.

Thank you all for your patience on this. As of today, you can add HRV as a supported metric and manually log your HRV data via the web-app. As well, you may track your HRV data over time on the web-app dashboard metrics chart. We are still working to have this integrated into the mobile apps and providing our partners an API for easier data syncing - more to come as this gets closer to fruition. In the meantime, please start tracking your HRV data and let us know any feedback.

HRV is becoming more widely accepted in may sports. I have been using it with my athletes for more than 4 years with very good results. the ability to Track on TP and integrate with TSB and TSS or in performance manager will be a step forward in athlete management.

Has there been a progress on this? I would love for my physiologist to be able to download my raw R-R data on a daily basis from TP, if possible.

Andy,
Thanks for the email.
That's not something we have but we should definitely add heart rate variability to our list of metrics. I suggest posting your request here (http://peaksware.uservoice.com/forums/106657-trainingpeaks-customer-feedback/suggestions/4479321-heart-rate-variability-as-tp-metric) to give visibility on this feature request to our Product Manager.

Is there an eta on this at all? It's been planned for the past few months but no updates.

if this is added, it would also be neat if it could be auto-synced from (m)any of the apps doing the measuring...similar to TP's partnership with MyFitnessPal ;^)
thanks a bunch...looking forward to this! (:

I would really like to see HRV as a TP metric and have it autosynced with the Sweetbeat app!

Agreed that HRV is a metric of value, in the same way as resting HR or subjective feeling.
Two considerations / questions though:1. HRV is seemingly differently quantified between e.g. Myithlete, Kubios, Omegawave, Firstbeat (Garmin and Polar uses Firstbeat - at least from what I can find of information - to predict your recovery time and how well you seemingly are rested during training), etc. They all use the same input (simplified ECG / r-r intervals and HR rate), but they output / quantify the results differently with a non-dimensional number. This means that if the input it not quantified using a universal standard / number, it becomes comparing apples with potatoes. How is this avoided?
2. The autosync feature in TrainingPeaks is, at least for me, extremely valuable! One of the small things that makes everything so much easier, especially for those with Garmin and Withings. Most athletes today uses Garmin (some Polar and some other) to log workouts, and those watches, especially the new ones does also measure R-R intervals in addition to HR. Most new watches for logging workout also becomes increasingly "smarter" and are increasingly more intended as a 24/7 wearable to log HRV (readiness / recovery), sleep, daily activities, etc. Can TrainingPeaks, with compatible metrics, read out these data using autosync? Otherwise, there suddenly becomes a whole lot of data that needs to be logged separately and secondly updated to TrainingPeaks manually. Autosync is the future!

Love the idea of HRV as part of any training or wellness program. It just makes good sense!
