I did find a small workaround, if you first select the route in the "ride" menu and then switch to the "train" menu, the route selected will be chosen also there. It would still be nice to see it in the "train" menu though.

Many thanks for this more nuanced suggestion, and support for TrainingPeaks Virtual.
We've deliberately not declined this one and will add it to the list of suggestions to consider in more detail. Whilst the general position remains that we deliberately choose not to publish this metric, it potentially could be displayed for yourself only (and be blank when viewing other riders) as an option in the custom UI.

I agree, sometimes life gets in the way and you might need to swap workouts (due to time constraints)

I would also appreciate having support for following structured runs (planned in Trainingpeaks) on the treadmill, which would make a big difference compared to Zwift, where you can only follow Zwifts workouts, but the workouts from TP don't get synched. Obviously erg mode won't be working for all treadmills, but seeing which zones you should hit for how long would be a big help!
